mY nitEs eNds WiTh sAd heArtfeLt..

My 2 nites are all rite cuz i have a fun and helpful staff nurse to partner with.. she helped me to answer some call bells when i unable to.. And joke around like nobody business.. BUT... yesterday nite was quite a freaking one... haa...

Actually i have a very very ill patient in isolation room.. she was very drowsy and unresponsive.. i had a feeling that she might pass away during my 3rd nite.. Yesterday nite bed 7 call bell sounded 2 times and there was no patient there and followed by bed 4 call bell.. there is patient there but she didnt call as we confirmed with her becuz she placed her call bell on top of the cabinet.. it sounded 3 times.. well.. we comfort amongst ourselves that it was technician problem la.. but we didnt get the technician to fix it.. Then followed by my patient at bed 8 told me that there is 2 person wearing red shirt keep looking at her a moment ago when i went to take her parameter.. she said that i was around also.. erm... immediately i was freaked off!! but i console her that she is all rite.. actually i had a admission at bed 9 which is beside bed 8... the bed 9 patient husband indeed wearing red shirt but i don think he sees my bed 8 with a kind of look because he was busy talkin to his wife.. my bed 8 indeed look very frightened and scared as she expresses the look was scary.. but even during the admission, the room was brightly lighted...

Then around 3am, i check my very ill patient blood pressure... it was 90/50 with weak oxygen level and high pulse rate although she was full oxygen.. then i decided to place the machine in the room to continue monitoring her.. but she was already gasping away with respiration of 29 which normal person bout 12-20 per minutes.. then the patient maid called up her employer which is patient son and husband... And after 5 minutes, they came to our ward cuz they lived at sterling road.. suddenly the machine sounded a few times den i went to check on her again.. Her gasping gettin bad as it was short gasping and could feel that she will stop breathing after a few breath.. Then immediately i check her blood pressure again.. it was unreadable.. i immediately shout for my staff nurse and they push the emergency trolley in... my colleague recheck the blood pressure again, it was unreadable... Then suddenly patient stopped breathing! completely stopped breathing... but when the machine sense her pulse, it was pumping... for bout 10 minutes... from low heart rate to fribrillation den to no heart rate.. becuz this patient already indicated DNR(do not resuscitate), and so we only stand by her side to see her gettin bad.. She is already 99 years old.. even if we resuscitate, we only brings suffering to her...
Actually at a point of time when her oxygen level is unrecordable and was cold and clamy, i held her hand and pray for her.. i pray to Lord that he will watch over her and let her go if she meant to go to ease her suffering.. after that, i was teary but i controlled.. but when she passed away at 0322, i was telling the patient in my heart that she was in good hand now... And so her relative came to see her last orfice..

This is my first time to witness a patient gets her last breath.. i did not feel very sad but felt somehow relief for her as her suffering has ended..

But i still felt quite uncomfortable... probably still freak out by the weird things and grieve of my patient death.. aiya better don think so much..
